So now that I've TOC'd around town for a few days, it's finally started to sink in that my time at ATMS/ATSS is really over. I just wanted to send out a huge thank you to everyone I worked with - parents, staff, and students - for all the hard work and support you put forth to make both schools such a unique and wonderful place to be. I have countless great memories from the past year, and I say very genuinely that I am grateful to have met and worked with all of you. On behalf of the Gr. 8 band students at Pacific Academy, our Principal Mr. Rob Teasdale, and myself, please let me thank you again for your wonderful hospitality on April 22nd. You have a wonderful school, and we very much enjoyed playing for the students at Abby Traditional. An overdue thank you for your support, yet again, of our Haiti project. The students who helped out were GREAT. We filled 450 individual bags with school supplies in the morning, had a pizza lunch on you (Chad Radons helped with this), and then had nine students help us finish up in the afternoon. Please thank Chad and all the students who helped especially Jessica Dhaliwal, Ali Ferguson, Kirat Saran, Harmeet Gill, Jasdeep Gill, Melissa Salter, Lindsay Hughes, Leigh Watkins, and Rebecca Brotherwood who were our afternoon helpers. Dear Mr. Jason Parker, I just wanted to thank you for allowing us to visit your school last week. I enjoyed the visit very much and found it to be a valuable experience. It was nice to see what a traditional school looks like and how it operates. I was really impressed with how your school focuses on respect and preparing students to be life long learners. I think the respect aspect is so important to teach children, especially during a time that children seem to be losing that concept in everyday life. I also liked how the school combines traditional values and beliefs with a modern twist, such as using laptops in the classroom. I was especially impressed by the middle school. As someone who has always focused on elementary teaching, the middle school environment appealed to me so much, that I am now considering it as an alternate option. The teachers we talked to were very friendly and easy to talk to, and the environment was so positive and energetic. I also liked how the teachers taught in teams, the students are a great age group and just the overall values your school practices identified with my own values and beliefs. We have home-schooled our children for four years. As second generation home-schoolers, deciding to place our kids in 'the system' was extremely daunting and stressful. Our experience moving from the home classroom to the school classroom was a surprisingly easy transition. We find the traditional style - which focuses on respect and responsibility - really fits with our family values...We feel our school is partnering with us to grow our children to be respectful, contributing members of society that every parent dreams of for their children...We feel we are no longer alone on the parenting journey. - Traditional Parent We can drop our children off in the morning with complete confidence that they will be taught in a structured, quiet environment that encourages learning. Traditional is great! The teachers are very supportive of the children's learning and encourage parents to get involved. Being a single mum has been challenging, but the school has been so supportive and understanding. It is truly my second family! Having our children in the traditional school program has developed good study habits, ensured strong basic skills, and fostered a discipline ethic that involves success both in and out of school. These aspects of the program at King as well as many others have been invaluable to our children's education and will serve them well in the future. ATSS Presents Cinderella ATMS Sabres Staring Something Special Kids Book Winners Announced Alexandra Potter was awarded $1000 for the artwork she created in her submission, A Special Girl: A Story of Epilepsy. Amy Guenther received $1000 for her story Violet's Special Day. Both awards were recently presented at a ceremony at The Reach Gallery Museum. The contests invited students in the community to create a book - aimed at kids from kindergarten to Grade 2 - about a child with epilepsy who has a seizure and requires first aid. The winning submissions will now be published and used as a resource in schools to help educate kids about epilepsy. KTES Raises Money for Heart and Stroke Foundation ATMS Supports BC Children's Hospital Not all members were able to attend, but those who did appeared live on television represented themselves, their families and their school in sterling fashion. Please join me in celebrating the self less work of Arjun Gill, Dilpreet Gill, Arjun Brar, Harkirat Athwal, Heena Khaira, Lovepreet Chahal, Amanpreet Dhaliwal and Divya Sethi. KTES Top Ranked Public School in Province KTES Featured In "Education Today" Magazine and Wins Awards Way to go King Traditional! ATSS Student Writing Published Individual students at Abbotsford Traditional Secondary School were also
recognized for their achievement. Brittany Collect, a grade 12 student, placed first overall in
the contest and has her story “Once Upon a Dragon” featured in the Dawning Hope
Anthology.
