So now that I've TOC'd around town for a few days, it's finally started to sink in that my time at ATMS/ATSS is really over.

I just wanted to send out a huge thank you to everyone I worked with - parents, staff, and students - for all the hard work and support you put forth to make both schools such a unique and wonderful place to be. I have countless great memories from the past year, and I say very genuinely that I am grateful to have met and worked with all of you.
- ATMS/ATSS Teacher

On behalf of the Gr. 8 band students at Pacific Academy, our Principal Mr. Rob Teasdale, and myself, please let me thank you again for your wonderful hospitality on April 22nd.  You have a wonderful school, and we very much enjoyed playing for the students at Abby Traditional.
- Mr. Caswell, Pacific Academy Teacher

An overdue thank you for your support, yet again, of our Haiti project. The students who helped out were GREAT. We filled 450 individual bags with school supplies in the morning, had a pizza lunch on you (Chad Radons helped with this), and then had nine students help us finish up in the afternoon.

Please thank Chad and all the students who helped especially Jessica Dhaliwal, Ali Ferguson, Kirat Saran, Harmeet Gill, Jasdeep Gill, Melissa Salter, Lindsay Hughes, Leigh Watkins, and Rebecca Brotherwood who were our afternoon helpers.
- Mr. Petersen, Heart To Heart For Haiti

Dear Mr. Jason Parker,

I just wanted to thank you for allowing us to visit your school last week. I enjoyed the visit very much and found it to be a valuable experience. It was nice to see what a traditional school looks like and how it operates. I was really impressed with how your school focuses on respect and preparing students to be life long learners. I think the respect aspect is so important to teach children, especially during a time that children seem to be losing that concept in everyday life. I also liked how the school combines traditional values and beliefs with a modern twist, such as using laptops in the classroom.

I was especially impressed by the middle school. As someone who has always focused on elementary teaching, the middle school environment appealed to me so much, that I am now considering it as an alternate option. The teachers we talked to were very friendly and easy to talk to, and the environment was so positive and energetic. I also liked how the teachers taught in teams, the students are a great age group and just the overall values your school practices identified with my own values and beliefs.
- SFU Student Teacher

We have home-schooled our children for four years. As second generation home-schoolers, deciding to place our kids in 'the system' was extremely daunting and stressful. Our experience moving from the home classroom to the school classroom was a surprisingly easy transition. We find the traditional style - which focuses on respect and responsibility - really fits with our family values...We feel our school is partnering with us to grow our children to be respectful, contributing members of society that every parent dreams of for their children...We feel we are no longer alone on the parenting journey. - Traditional Parent

We can drop our children off in the morning with complete confidence that they will be taught in a structured, quiet environment that encourages learning.
- Traditional Parent

Traditional is great! The teachers are very supportive of the children's learning and encourage parents to get involved. Being a single mum has been challenging, but the school has been so supportive and understanding. It is truly my second family!
- Traditional Parent

Having our children in the traditional school program has developed good study habits, ensured strong basic skills, and fostered a discipline ethic that involves success both in and out of school. These aspects of the program at King as well as many others have been invaluable to our children's education and will serve them well in the future.

ATSS Principal's Message for March
ATSS has been a busy place with a number of great events taking or soon to be taking place. I want to congratulate our Grad class for a very successful Grad Fashion show. We had sold out tickets for this event with over 300 parents and friends in attendance. We were treated to an excellent event with causal and classy dress modeled by our Gr. 12 students. A special thank-you to Mr. Gasser who provided all the technical support and to Ms. Dewar and Mrs. Mangat who came out to take tickets and collect money. The Grads had decided that they wanted to donate all the collected money for this event to help struggling teenagers right here in Abbotsford. We presented the Cyrus Center with a $1,700 cheque.

We have several students travelling to Ottawa, our nation’s capital, on the “Encounters with Canada” program sponsored by the Canadian Government. Sam Orchison, Delaina Stromquist and Emma Grant will spend a week in Ottawa attending a number of workshops and activities designed to give students a very insightful and rewarding experience as Canadian citizen’s.

We are also very proud of a number of our students who have entered the Polar Expressions Writing Contest. As a result we now have two national published writers, Gr. 10 student Ekanki Chawla whose short story was published in the short story anthology “The Memory Machine” and Gr, 11 student Sukhdeep Jatana whose poem was published in the Poetry Anthology, “The Arrival”. Congratulations to Mrs. Toews and her English students.

Now from the sports desk, members of our school competed at the BC Provincial Championships this past week. Congratulations to wrestlers Gordy Gill, Arsh Kangura, Sukhman Sidhu, Tej Paul Kullar and Jaskaran Khela and their coaches Mr. Domke and Mr. Laity. They returned with a 4th place finish for Sukhman Sidhu and a 5th place finish for Gordy Gill. Also to Elijah Horner who competed in the gymnastics competition. Well done Titans.

Our Gr. 9 girls Basketball team left for the Provincial championships in Kelowna this weekend. They qualified as a “wild card” team. We wish them and their coaches Mr. Barden, Mr. Dix and Mr. Hundal all the best and hope that they will return with a provincial medal.

ATMS Students Adopt-A-Family
The grade 6 classes at ATMS recently participated in the Vancouver Sun sponsored 'adopt-a-family' program, and collected many boxes of scarves, mittens, toques, socks and jackets. These articles of clothing were donated to 'Lord Selkirk Annex', an inner city Vancouver elementary school, whose students and families are in need of basic winter clothing. Our students, and their parents, did a great job of gathering these items and generously donating them to these children and making a difference in their lives. They were delivered on Saturday, Dec. 10, just in time for the holiday season.

Thank you to everyone who helped out and contributed to this program.

Kids Book Winners Announced
The Center for Epilepsy and Seizure Education has announced the winners of its Children's Book Writing Contest.

Alexandra Potter was awarded $1000 for the artwork she created in her submission, A Special Girl: A Story of Epilepsy. Amy Guenther received $1000 for her story Violet's Special Day. Both awards were recently presented at a ceremony at The Reach Gallery Museum.

The contests invited students in the community to create a book - aimed at kids from kindergarten to Grade 2 - about a child with epilepsy who has a seizure and requires first aid.

The winning submissions will now be published and used as a resource in schools to help educate kids about epilepsy.

ATMS Supports BC Children's Hospital
Mr. Parker was very proud to attend this year's charity telethon and present a check for $2,504.11 on behalf of a dedicated group of students who worked over the entire year to fund raise for the hospital.

Not all members were able to attend, but those who did appeared live on television represented themselves, their families and their school in sterling fashion. Please join me in celebrating the self less work of Arjun Gill, Dilpreet Gill, Arjun Brar, Harkirat Athwal, Heena Khaira, Lovepreet Chahal, Amanpreet Dhaliwal and Divya Sethi.

Traditional Schools Celebrate Remembrance Day
ATMS/ATSS had a special Remembrance Day Ceremony this past year. As you know we combine our Remembrance Day Service with the Middle School. We invited several special guests to attend and speak at the Assembly.

Lt. Col. Harjit Sajjan the Commanding Officer of the British Columbia Regiment, (DCO) and Capt. Ficke from the Okanagan Reserve Battalion, who served on a peacekeeping tour in Bosnia, spoke to our students, staff and parents at our Remembrance day Ceremony.

Our colour guard of Matthew Benton, (ATSS), Jacob Solano, (AVS), Arjun Gill, (ATSS) and Aman Gill, (ATMS) were led by pipe Corporal Chris Bronson of the British Columbia Regiment.

As well we had an unexpected guest join us, former Cpl. Paul, Franklin who was in the wheel chair. He was the driver of the
G-Wagon in which Canada's Ambassador to Afghanistan was killed in by an IED. He lost both legs in that attack. Other participants in the ceremony were ATSS Emcees, Jasmine Thompson and Jenna Schmirler and a poem read by Airforce Cadet Mark Dhillon.

We would like to congratulate those who led the assembly and the excellent behaviour of our entire ATMS/ATSS student body. Special thanks to Mr. Hendricks for organizing the ceremony with our students and to Glen and Estella Cummins for arranging for our guest speakers to be here with us for this important occasion.

KTES Top Ranked Public School in Province
Congratulations to our students, teachers and parents! King Traditional ranked first place (again) in the province, and in our school district, as top performing public school! We received a score of 9.8 out of 10 for academics. Hats off to our sister school - Auguston, which scored 9.2 out of 10!

A huge thank you to all our teachers and especially to Mrs. Rasti and
Mr.Price for preparing our students for these Provincial exams.

KTES Featured In "Education Today" Magazine and Wins Awards
King Traditional was featured in the August 2010 issue of "Education Today" magazine, highlighting the successes of our school. Our own Mrs. Kasapi was even mentioned in the article! On top of this already exciting news, we also won an award for being the '1st Place - Top Fundraising School' in all of B.C. for Children's Hospital. Then, on Saturday, A.P.D. Casey Vinet and Chief of Police, Bob Rich, presented King Traditional with a trophy and school pizza party for top participating/fundraising school for the Police Challenge Run. About 10% of the runners that came out for the Police Challenge were from King Traditional.

Way to go King Traditional! Thank you parents for being so supportive of your child's school and community. You are what makes us so strong.

Auguston Supports Heart to Heart

ATSS Parent Helper Needed
One of our Traditional tenets is “parents as partners.” We value very much the role parents play in supporting our school activities. With teachers withdrawing from extra-‐ curricular activities at this time, more than ever we need parent help for a number of important events happening at ATSS this spring. Help is needed for the following activities:

1. Grad March (May 11, afternoon) – 10-‐12 parents needed
2. Grad Banquet& Dance (May 11, evening) – 8-‐12 parents needed
3. Convocation (June 8, evening) – 15-‐20 parents needed (gr. 9-‐11 parents only … the grad parents need to enjoy this event with their children)

The ability to run these events is dependent upon having enough volunteer help. Your support is crucial at this time. Please consider how you might help. We won’t be able to run these events without strong volunteer help.

Thank you for your support!
